While waiting for the spring.....

While waiting for the snow to melt, and the official start of the gardening season I am reading as much as I can about gardening, looking at seed catalogues and watching garden series on Netflix.

I live in Norway, and am the humble owner of a little garden in the town of Holmestrand on the Oslo fjord. According to the Norwegian Hageselskap my garden is a sone 3, that basically mean that there is a good chance for many plants to thrive, though naturally not as much as in my native France.

I went to the public library and picked up all the books they had available about vegetable gardens for Nordic countries. Unfortunately there are just not that many written specifically for Norway, most of the books available by Scandinavin gardeners are translated into Norwegian from Swedish, or Danish. And while I love to look at pictures of the beautiful kitchen gardens from our nearby neighbors, the advice and time lines are not always applicable to my region.

So in my research I have started to look up local bloggers, and subscribed to ‘Norsk hage tiden’.
With this online diary I want to invite you to follow my adventures, fortunes (and misfortunes) as I tend my little garden through the seasons.

Unlike the persons in the Monty Don show ‘Big dreams – Small spaces’, I have no budget set-up for the garden. Even though I love gardening and always had my hand in dirt, attempting to make things grow, I am no expert and have a lot to learn - Something  I am very much looking forward to.
